Ladies Group
Knitted Squares from Tight Knit Friendships
At a Parish meeting in 2012, a suggestion was made to start a Ladies Group. An initial meeting was held for anyone who was interested and the decision was made to start meeting on Tuesday afternoon between 1 and 3pm. The purpose of the group is to raise funds for the children of the parish to enable them to participate in activities. To date we have raised £149.00 (ladies donate £1 per week) and we have also donated £50.00 to our parish school who have been kind enough to offer the use of their mobile classroom during term time - 'now we have to sort a meeting place for holiday time as the ladies say they will miss our weekly chats!' We started our activities by knitting squares to make into a blanket for our Children's Liturgy group. Ladies use their own funds to buy resources. We are now busy making a variety of crafts to sell in Church from September 2013 onwards. The school requires a banner for the June Music Festival and we will be working with pupils to help them achieve this. As Year 3 pupils prepare for their First Holy Communion, ladies have become prayer partners for individual children. The school have identified the partnerships with a display in the Church porch. The ladies enjoy meeting each week. It is a social occasion and tea and biscuits are available. The general consensus is that the group fulfils a social need as many of our members are retired or live alone, but the group is open to anyone. We regularly have a minimum of 10, often 14 attendees. Anyone who wishes to join us is very welcome. |
